The Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall has returned for its nineth season, bringing its usual hardcore vibe and energy to Jamaican television. Auditions start Saturday, November 14, in Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland.

Jamaican dancehall music is a popular genre that uses creative lyrics and toasting put to music. Topics can cover a wide spectrum but what is essential is that the rhythm and lyrics are combined often in a friendly combative, suggestive or comedic style.

Magnum Kings and Queens (MKQ&D) has harnessed this culture into a highly energetic talent show that sets out to unearth the next King and Queen of the Dancehall. Contestants can be drawn from all walks of life and in the 2015 season there were entrants from Trinidad and Tobago. The competition is played out in front of a live audience and three judges.

Host: Yanique Barrett

Judges: Skatta Burrell, Ms. Kitty and Professor Nuts Series

Producer: Television Jamaica and Mark Kenny

Watch the launch on Television Jamaica, tomorrow (Thursday, November 5) at 8:30 p.m.
